Brass Bands’ Venture

A N.E. Midlands Brass Band Association was formed at the Labour Club, Mansfield on Saturday. Thirty-four bands, the majority associated with collieries in Notts. and Derbyshire, together with several subscription bands, are interested in the venture and 19 were represented at the meeting. Mr. J. Levick (Shirebrook) was appointed president and Mr. S. Jennings (Bolsover Colliery) secretary.

The objects of the association are to foster brass band playing in the area, encourage young players and to create fellowship among the bandsmen. It is possible that solo and band competitions will be organised.

These still remain our objectives over 75 years later. Today we support bands from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and are delighted to have members from South Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

All our general meetings are open to representatives from all brass bands within NEMBBA’s geographical area of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and to representatives from member bands from outside our area.
